Queen of Kings 

My name is Jacquie, founder and creator of Queen of Kings ceramics. 

Mother, teacher and self-taught creative, I started painting in April 2020, during the first lockdown because I wanted to eat from a specific plate, a melanoid plate, but I had none so, I decided to create my own art onto a plate to satisfy my interest and need. Creating a product, and testing the product did take alot of time, but I wanted to try it out. So, with anything new there became a realisation that there was a market for cultural, fun, historical, and 21 century art, on ceramics. When I started I didn’t know how to draw really and began to try different things. I tried out different tools to bring out what I wanted to project onto plates.

Each feature on each plate is handmade and bespoke for every occasion as well as for the home, gifts, and personalised sets. Sets usually take between 2-4 weeks to complete depending on the feature, and individual plates can take 1-2 weeks to complete.

History Of The Name

The name Queen of Kings came from ” Empress Zawditu” who was an Empress from Ethiopia who from 1916-1930 was the first female head of an African country.  I am inspired by her name because she was crowned Queen of Kings.

Empress Zawditu of Ethiopia was born on April 29, 1876-1930, as Askala Maryam in the city of Harrar in Enjersa Goro Province, Ethiopia. Her mother was Abechi, a Shewan noblewoman and her father was Menlik ll.

I was encouraged by the first King in my life, our Dad who never spoke without imparting his knowledge and wisdom. He would say, “Do your best and the rest will follow you”, his words will always ring true in my life.
